Liverpool football club seem to be plotting a move for Chelsea youngster Levi Colwill, according to the latest reports. The talented 20-year-old defender, primarily a centre-back but also capable of playing on the left, has been on loan with Brighton this season, where he has made 15 appearances and caught the attention of Liverpool’s scouts.
Rumours suggest that the Reds are keen to sign the player, who has been described as “outrageous” and “a top talent” by talent scout Jacek Kulig. With a valuation of €16m on Transfermarkt, Colwill could prove to be a bargain investment in the long run and a perfect fit for Jurgen Klopp’s Anfield vision.
Klopp and Liverpool have already been linked with making up to five signings this summer, with midfield reinforcements seemingly at the top of their wishlist. However, a move for Colwill could add some much-needed depth to Liverpool’s defence, with Joel Matip heading towards his mid-30s and Joe Gomez rumoured to be on the move.
While Ibrahima Konate and Virgil van Dijk are Klopp’s first choice pairing at the moment, having Colwill as a backup option could prove to be a smart move for Liverpool, especially if he continues to develop at the rate he is currently. However, they may face stiff competition from Premier League rivals Manchester City and Tottenham, who are also said to be interested in the youngster.
Only time will tell if Liverpool will be successful in their pursuit of Colwill, but with Klopp already planning for the future, it’s clear that the Reds are determined to build a squad capable of competing at the highest level for many years to come.
