Leeds United Fan Favourite Worth £30m May Consider Departing

Leeds United’s star goalkeeper Illan Meslier may be considering a move away from the club this summer, should the team fail to avoid relegation. According to reports, the Frenchman has already attracted interest from Chelsea, Manchester United, and Tottenham Hotspur, with a price tag of around £30m being suggested. While Meslier’s current contract won’t expire for another three years, it’s clear that he could be an important player for any of these top clubs.

Since joining Elland Road from FC Lorient in 2020, Meslier has firmly established himself as Leeds’ number one goalkeeper, making over 120 appearances for the club. Despite his impressive performances, however, his future at the club remains uncertain, especially if they fail to stay in the top flight.

Football journalist Pete O’Rourke recently spoke about Meslier’s situation, suggesting that the shot-stopper might want to leave the club if Leeds get relegated. “If Leeds were to go down, I’m sure he would want to leave and Leeds might be forced to cash in on him as well,” O’Rourke said.

Leeds fans will be hoping that their team can avoid the drop and hang on to their star goalkeeper. Meslier’s towering 6-foot-5 frame and excellent reflexes have helped him earn a reputation as one of the most promising goalkeepers in the Premier League. He’s kept 30 clean sheets during his time at Elland Road, including three Man of the Match performances this season.

One of Meslier’s key strengths is his ability to play out from the back, making him a valuable asset to any team that likes to build their attacks from deep. His passing accuracy is exceptional, with a success rate of 98.4% for medium-range passes this season.

Overall, Leeds will be hoping that Meslier remains with the club beyond this summer, whether they stay in the Premier League or not. Losing such an important player would undoubtedly be a huge blow to manager Javi Gracia and his team. However, if the right offer comes along, it may be difficult for the club to fend off interest from top Premier League clubs.
