Williams of Barnsley attracts interest from Sheffield United

Sheffield United is reportedly keeping a close eye on Jordan Williams, a defender for Barnsley, with a potential move in mind for this summer.

Having entered the final 18 months of his contract at Oakwell, Williams is now under scrutiny from several potential suitors as he is one of Michael Duff’s most outstanding defenders.

Indeed, despite the fact that the Yorkshire-based team is currently ranked fourth in League One, any potential move to a team in a higher division would definitely appeal to Williams should promotion to the Championship not be achieved.

According to Football League World, Sheffield United, Norwich City, and Middlesbrough are all “monitoring” Williams as they try to climb up the ranks to the Premier League.

The Blades and their rivals are ‘taking a closer look’ at the 23-year-old as they assess whether to make an official offer.

Williams has been labelled as a “brilliant” player by journalist Josh Bunting, and United should act quickly to get this deal done ahead of their fellow suitors.

The Huddersfield-born player is currently averaging 2.3 clearances and 1.5 aerial wins per league game (WhoScored), but he is also an attacking threat.

In 33 appearances in all competitions this season, the Tykes star has contributed six assists and five goals, demonstrating his proclivity for moving down the flanks.

Furthermore, Williams can operate in five different positions, including on both wings and at centre-back, which would provide yet another attractive component for Heckingbottom.
