Liverpool are reportedly interested in Flamengo youngster Matheus Franca.
What’s the latest on Liverpool’s interest in Franca?
Liverpool is preparing for a busy summer transfer period following a disappointing 2022/23 season. The club is said to be focusing on central midfield additions, with up to five new players. Amongst the potential targets are Chelsea’s Mason Mount, Bayern Munich’s Ryan Gravenberch, and Brighton’s Alexis Mac Allister.
In addition, Flamengo’s Franca has been linked with a move to Liverpool, Arsenal, and Crystal Palace by Brazilian outlet Torcedores. The report states that the teenager is considered one of the most in-demand players in the current football market but is valued at £163m ($185m) due to his contract which runs until 2027.
Who is Matheus Franca?
The 19-year-old mostly plays as an attacking midfielder but can also perform as a left-winger or a second striker. He has scored eight goals in 44 senior appearances for Flamengo. Franca has been called a “prodigy” by journalist Aaron Stokes and a “great midfielder and great striker” by football talent scout Jacek Kulig.
While securing Franca’s services could be a wise decision for Liverpool in the long run, Arsenal has already sent a scout to watch the young talent. The club needs to take proactive steps to negotiate a successful transfer before they lose the chance to the competition.
