21-year-old Loanee from Leeds Might Prove to Be a Vital Addition in the Summer

Leeds United could benefit from the comeback of Cody Drameh in the summer, considering the impressive performances displayed by the right-back in his most recent loan spell.

What’s the story with Cody Drameh?
Once again, Leeds finds themselves fighting at the wrong end of the table and might face the risk of relegation with only a few games left. However, the Whites have something to look forward to over the summer with the expected return of Drameh, who has been away on loan from the club for the second half of the 2022/23 season. The 21-year-old has been on loan to the Championship side Luton Town, looking to make its move into the top flight.

This comes after Drameh’s loan spell with Cardiff City in the last season, where he was awarded the Player of the Season despite arriving only in January. Nevertheless, Leeds decided it was best to send the young player away in search of more regular football. Speaking on his podcast, Phil Hay praised Drameh’s recent performances, who has had an impressive end to his campaign under Rob Edwards at Kenilworth Road:

(39:10) “It’s funny because Cody Drameh is having a very, very good season at Luton in the way that Charlie Cresswell up until that eye injury was starting to put together a really good season at Millwall, as well.”

How well has Drameh played for Luton?
Since his arrival at the end of January, Drameh has played in 14 Championship games for the Hatters and started all of them. He has recorded two assists during these games, but what’s notable is that Luton has only lost one match with Drameh playing. It is worth mentioning that the loss was a 1-0 defeat to the already promoted Burnley side.

Meanwhile, Leeds has been alternating between Luke Ayling and Rasmus Kristensen at the right-back position after Drameh’s recent spell in the starting XI. Hay praises Drameh’s tackling and blocking abilities in the Championship, and he has shown his potential to create shots, ranking inside the top 8th percentile for shot-creating actions.

It seems apparent that the young player has plenty to offer and would be intriguing to watch whether he gets his desired opportunity at Leeds or will have to look for a permanent switch in the summer to find regular football.
