West Brom Goalkeeper Returns to Training Before Stoke Match

Reports suggest that Alex Palmer, the goalkeeper of West Bromwich Albion, has re-joined full training ahead of their match against Stoke City on Saturday.

What Is the Latest on Palmer’s Injury?
West Brom managed a 2-2 draw with QPR at The Hawthorns on Monday and are set to play against Alex Neil’s Potters this weekend at bet365 Stadium.

However, their goalkeeper, Palmer, has been out for almost three months since his serious ankle injury in training. Since January, Spanish boss Carlos Corberan had to rely on Josh Griffiths to tend the team’s goal. Nevertheless, Palmer’s condition has shown a positive improvement, as he has resumed training and may soon be able to return to the game.

According to Express and Star, Corberan confirmed Palmer’s comeback and said, “From the last four days, Palmer is making the normal training with the group. It’s true in a game situation he did not have exposure for a long time and during the international break unfortunately he had to slow more from using this time to help everyone in the recovery and be closer to the first team.

“He couldn’t use it in the way we wanted to use [it]. The games [over Easter] arrived very quickly and he was not able to play the B team game one week ago that was necessary to make him ready to play. But he was able to train normal after that game, and now, of course, arrives to one condition where every day, he is training normally, he starts to be more fit to help the team.”

Palmer’s Excellence for West Brom
Palmer is a “sublime” goalkeeper as described by journalist Josh Bunting. His return is great news for Corberan, as Palmer has maintained ten clean sheets in 20 senior appearances, ranking him in the 98th percentile for clean sheet percentage compared to goalkeepers at a similar level over the past year. It is worth noting that he has recorded 36 saves from 49 shots on target against and has a save percentage of 77.6%, as stated by FBRef, evidencing his exceptional skills behind the ball. This suggests that he will have a considerable impact when he returns to the team.
